my current line of work is concert promotion. I am based in Peru and have been doing this for almost seven years. my duties include, among many other things, dealing with all things related to booking talent and fulfilling their requests.

for example, if an artist (or their management) is interested in touring South America they will ask their agent to look for people interested in paying money for their services. I am in charge of doing the spreadsheets that allow me to correctly budget all the artists' needs, as well as estimating the income we can get (as well as deducting the corresponding variable expenses). of course, budgets can go crazy in the middle of the project, sales could behave strangely, we could fail to get a sponsoring brand, etc but I have a knowledge base that has so far allowed me to minimize error.

after all these preliminary calculations, I come up with an offer and the artists' representatives will decide if it's good enough to pay for their corresponding bills and generate the profits they expect from the tour. if the outcome is positive, I have to start loads of paperwork to get the project running. what, when, how and how much I do and how much is relied on to my peers or to vendors is a matter of private business confidentality so I will not explain this at length on my personal website.

the nature of my job requires me to be in permanent contact with artists' teams and representatives. sometimes we've been congratulated and thanked. sometimes each part just fulfills their job to completion. very few times I've been scolded in the process. very few times we've found artists' teams not doing their job properly. the combination of all of this has resulted in a number of artists willing to work with our company all over again.

I also had a band for ten years. we were called The Satellite and we released a few songs. not many people showed up to our shows and we never really got attention from the press, even if we were good doing what we did. maybe not many people were into the kind of thing we were doing and that's fine. we had a lot of fun together and I hope we can get together again.

past work experience includes tasks related to my univeristy degree on system engineering. I spent a lot of time doing websites for several clients as a freelance developer. before that, I spent a considerable amount of time making sure we were correctly buidling databases to offer people faster broadband, long distance plans, wireless landline phones, additional phone lines, computers for their businesses etc by making them unsolicited phone calls. I also had to instruct people how certain promotions work so they wouldn't put the phone company in trouble for lack of clarity.

my first job took place at a ski resort in California. I spent a few weeks working at the warehouse, sorting out food products for later preparation and consumption. we also dealt with trash and recycling bottles, as well as used cooking oil (so it could be sold to the makeup industry). I moved on to doing the graveyard shift at the hotel front desk. by the end of the season, I was also a hotel porter and I did a dishwashing shift too. I only did snowboard 3 or 4 times. I was never good at it, but it was fun. my wife has noticed I talk about this brief period of my life at least once a day.
